Microneedling Q & A

What is microneedling?

Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure that helps your skin produce collagen to heal old scars and other blemishes or irregularities. Dr. Patel uses a roller or pen device with a matrix of fine needles to poke shallow channels into your skin.

After your microneedling procedure, your skin can temporarily absorb nutrients better than before. Dr. Patel can make helpful recommendations for nourishing skin care products to use after your treatment.

If you want more intense results from your microneedling treatment, Dr. Patel might recommend Vivace® radiofrequency microneedling. When combined with radiofrequency, microneedling results in deeper collagen growth than the standard option.

What are the results of microneedling?

Microneedling transforms your skin from the inner layers and on its surface. It minimizes signs of aging associated with collagen loss. It can also break down scar tissue or help your skin grow to fill indented scars.

Because microneedling can address such a wide range of skin issues, it’s a great treatment option for many individuals looking to improve their complexions. Dr. Patel often recommends microneedling to treat or reduce:

  • Acne
  • Acne scars
  • Scars from injuries or surgery
  • Stretch marks
  • Hair loss
  • Large pores
  • Sun damage
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Dullness
  • Lines and wrinkles

Targeted areas for microneedling aren’t just limited to your face. You can also get microneedling for your scalp, chest, abdomen, thighs, or any other region of skin with treatable issues.

How many microneedling treatments will I need?

At CoCo Dermatology and Cosmetics, Dr. Patel decides how many sessions you’ll need based on the extent of your skin concerns. Usually, 4-6 treatments result in identifiable improvements.

Each treatment takes 10-20 minutes and you can continue your day as normal after you leave the office.

How should I care for my skin after microneedling?

Your skin will be extra sensitive after each microneedling session, so staying out of direct sunlight is imperative to its healing. Dr. Patel recommends using a daily sunscreen to protect your skin from UV light damage. You should also avoid artificial UV sources like tanning booths.

After each session, you should avoid swimming pools, saunas, and sweating. It also helps to stop wearing makeup temporarily and wash your hands before touching your face.

Microneedling treats lots of skin concerns, both deep and shallow. Book your consultation at CoCo Dermatology and Cosmetics by phone or online today.
